Today’s SCOOP is brought to you by our .
Dear New Yorkers,
In only 24 hours, tens of thousands of people have taken our quiz to find out which mayoral hopeful they best match up with.
Some of the candidates’ responses were unexpected: for example, Andrew Cuomo was the only one who declined to answer how he’d work with President Donald Trump — while almost all of the others said that resistance was their priority when dealing with the istration.
In addition, candidates have backed down from the once-common “Defund the Police” rallying cry: in our 2021 edition of Meet Your Mayor, seven candidates said they agreed with the proposition “Redirect a substantial share of NYPD operating resources to other city agencies.” In 2025, however, not a single candidate said they wanted to scale back the NYPD. And Scott Stringer, who in 2021 agreed with that first statement, swung to the other end of the spectrum, saying he’d increase the size of the police force.
Are you surprised by the candidates’ responses?
Read more here about what we learned when we surveyed the mayoral candidates.
And if you have more questions, put them in this form and THE CITY may be able to ask them in an debate. (You can ask questions to the comptroller candidates, too.)
To THE CITY, forward SCOOP to a friend.

Our Other Top Stories
- Prison reform didn’t make it into Gov. Kathy Hochul’s state budget, but advocates are still pushing to get it ed. “I truly believe that my son died so that others can live,” testified the father of Robert Brooks, who was beaten to death by corrections officers. “I’m asking you today to real legislative reform.”
- Former Mayor Bill de Blasio has reached a historic six-figure financial settlement with the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board (COIB) over using an NYPD security detail when he was on the campaign trail in 2019. He’s been ordered to pay over $300,000 in restitution — a record amount in COIB history.
- With funding for its capital budget now secured, the MTA is looking to add more open gangway cars to its fleet, bringing it closer in design to train networks across the world: the futuristic style is common in the Paris Metro, the London Underground, and the Toronto Transit Commission.
